Got this message from Rod last night.
Hopefully he can confirm that it is finally fixed today. :-)

Instrument cluster

Good news.  Rod called me today and he got the car started for 3 days in a row when he took out the instrument cluster. Hope this is the cause.

Still in the workshop

Wiring removed except to fuse box, DME and access system but still problem with cold start.  Point way to start is to disconnect negative terminal  and reconnect again. Sigh.
